•RICHARD “DICK” ARMSTRONG

Richard “Dick” Armstrong, age 85, faithful husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather and loving great-grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2022, in Perrysburg. He was born on May 30, 1936, to Wayne and Ann (Androvich) Armstrong in Toledo. On May 28, 1955, Dick married Gaye Gurtzweiler at Stony Ridge United Methodist Church. Dick and Gaye celebrated 67 years of marriage together.

William K. DeJong, age 73, died swiftly and gently on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Brookdale - Bowling Green, while preparing for bed. His family is so very grateful for the supportive loving care provided during the last 4-1/2 years by Brookdale and the caring staff over the years.

MAUREEN ANN RUFTY

Maureen was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Alexander Kelly and Suzanne Kelly. Maureen attended and graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1984. While attending the University of Toledo in the College of Business, she worked as a waitress for the Original Pancake House and later for Le Peep Restaurants, where she met her husband, Greg Rufty in September of 1987 … they were married on June 24, 1988. After a short move to New Jersey, Maureen and Greg moved back to northwest Ohio, and she returned to the University of Toledo, switching majors to early childhood education, where she achieved her bachelor’s degree in 1995, while working full time as a floral designer for Emery’s Flowers. She began her career in teaching at St. Martin De Porres within the Toledo Catholic Diocese, as a kindergarten teacher, and later moved to Toledo Public Schools, where she was a part of the opening staff of Washington Kindergarten Center. While teaching fulltime for TPS, she earned her master’s degree in early childhood development in 2004. During her 24-plus year career with TPS as a kindergarten teacher, she also taught at Rosa Parks, Spring, East Broadway and her final home, Oakdale Elementary. Along the way, she met and worked with many wonderful ∏ staff members, many of whom she stayed in touch with through the years. At Oakdale Elementary, she developed relationships with this amazing staff and students who stood by her side as she fought her final battle with cancer over the last 11 months.

BETTE MAY WOOLLEY

Bette May Woolley, 96, died Friday, February 18, 2022, at Lakes of Monclova in Maumee, where she lived for eight years. She was one of 10 children born to Ruby (Reynolds) and William Wilkerson in Brewton, Alabama.

JULIA (JUDY) ELLEN HOOD

Julia (Judy) Ellen Hood, 85, of Crystal River, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. She was born in Avon, Maine, to Bertha and Cecil White. Julia was predeceased by her two brothers, Ernest and Carl White. She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Malcom Hood; her daughters, Cindy Nipp (Ralph), Carla Laukhuf (Jason); son, Gregory Hood (Kelli); grandchildren, Mallory Hood, Casey Hood, Lindsey Hood, Ben Hood, Julia Laukhuf, Carissa Laukhuf, and great-grandchild, Aria Hood.

MARC “ANDY” ANDREW CURTIS

Andy passed away peacefully in Missoula, Montana, with family by his side. Andy was born and raised in Perrysburg, Ohio, and graduated from the high school there in 1974, where he wrestled and played baseball. Andy served in the U.S. Army for two years, and was stationed in West Germany, where he patrolled the Berlin Wall. After returning to Ohio, he married Cynthia “Cyndie” Whitner in 1977, and they raised three sons in Rossford.

Michael W. Stevenson, 54, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Mike was the loving husband of Amy Stevenson for 30 years. They met as students at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and proudly spoke of their “Miami Merger.” Mike and Amy previously resided in Gahana, Ohio; Overland Park, Kansas, and Boca Raton, Florida, before returning to the Columbus area in Westerville.

Douglas “Doug” Jon Staib, 53, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away February 14, 2022. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on November 13, 1968, to Jon and Barbara (Zemanski) Staib. He earned a bachelor of fine arts with honors from James Madison University.

James N. Bilkovsky, 87, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed February 23, 2022. James was born in Toledo, on October 14, 1934, to Norman and Hilda Bilkovsky. He married Shirley Fisher of Genoa, and they have been married 63 years. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; nephews, Lawrence Wagner of Maumee; David Wagner of Bradford of Avon, United Kingdom; Peter Wagner of Cambridge, Massachusetts; William Wagner of Media, Pennsylvania, and niece, Kim Caris of Toledo.
