David Ronald Hufford of Georgetown, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on February 27, 2022. Ron was born in Perrysburg, on December 11, 1934, to Gertrude (Best) and Joseph Hufford.

•JANET LEE BEERS

Janet Lee Beers, age 89, passed away on March 17, 2022. She was born on November 27, 1932, to Charles and Mayme (Hall) Shinaberry in Lima, Ohio. On December 14, 1952, Janet married Bernard Beers, and they shared 64 happy years together, until Bernie’s passing in 2017. Janet and Bernie raised two children in Perrysburg; Tom (Ellen) Beers and Sue (Mike) Hagan and they survive.

Richard S. Currie, 89, of Perrysburg, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022. He was born November 14, 1932, in Port Huron, Michigan, to Richard and Pearl (Shiel) Currie II. He married Doris Ahonen on October 31, 1959, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

•DOUGLAS N. “NED” HOFFMAN

Douglas “Ned” Hoffman, of Perrysburg, passed away on March 16, 2022. He was born on April 11, 1945, to John Leo and Ruth Mary (Baughn) Hoffman. He was the fifth eldest child of 10. Ned married Cynthia Dee Sloan on September 6, 1980.

•ANTOINETTE “TONI” ARTZ

Antoinette “Toni” Artz, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully March 19, 2022, at Kingston of Perrysburg, surrounded by her loving family. Toni was born in Lima, Ohio, to Bruce and Yvonne (Michels) Bennett. She graduated from Maumee High School in 1958, where she was known as Public Energy #1, due to her boundless energy and spirit. She married Merlin “Jim” Artz in 1963, and put her roots down in Perrysburg, raising five children.

•RICHARD “DICK” ARMSTRONG

Richard “Dick” Armstrong, age 85, faithful husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather and loving great-grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2022, in Perrysburg. He was born on May 30, 1936, to Wayne and Ann (Androvich) Armstrong in Toledo. On May 28, 1955, Dick married Gaye Gurtzweiler at Stony Ridge United Methodist Church. Dick and Gaye celebrated 67 years of marriage together.

•WILLIAM K. DeJONG

William K. DeJong, age 73, died swiftly and gently on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Brookdale - Bowling Green, while preparing for bed. His family is so very grateful for the supportive loving care provided during the last 4-1/2 years by Brookdale and the caring staff over the years.

MAUREEN ANN RUFTY

Maureen was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Alexander Kelly and Suzanne Kelly. Maureen attended and graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1984. While attending the University of Toledo in the College of Business, she worked as a waitress for the Original Pancake House and later for Le Peep Restaurants, where she met her husband, Greg Rufty in September of 1987 … they were married on June 24, 1988. After a short move to New Jersey, Maureen and Greg moved back to northwest Ohio, and she returned to the University of Toledo, switching majors to early childhood education, where she achieved her bachelor’s degree in 1995, while working full time as a floral designer for Emery’s Flowers. She began her career in teaching at St. Martin De Porres within the Toledo Catholic Diocese, as a kindergarten teacher, and later moved to Toledo Public Schools, where she was a part of the opening staff of Washington Kindergarten Center. While teaching fulltime for TPS, she earned her master’s degree in early childhood development in 2004. During her 24-plus year career with TPS as a kindergarten teacher, she also taught at Rosa Parks, Spring, East Broadway and her final home, Oakdale Elementary. Along the way, she met and worked with many wonderful ∏ staff members, many of whom she stayed in touch with through the years. At Oakdale Elementary, she developed relationships with this amazing staff and students who stood by her side as she fought her final battle with cancer over the last 11 months.
