•LARRY PERKINS

Larry Perkins, age 85, of Rossford, passed away peacefully on April 11, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, in Perrysburg. Larry was born in Ravenna, Ohio, on May 2, 1939, to Albert and Madalene (Anderton) Perkins. He spent his growing up years in Wadsworth, Ohio, moving to Rossford his senior year in high school. He graduated from Rossford High School in 1957 and then Bowling Green State University with a major in education. He later received a master’s degree from the University of Toledo in special education.

After graduating from BGSU, his first job was teaching social studies and speech at a small school in Ai, Ohio. In 1965, he went to Penta County Vocational School, teaching Occupational Work Experience, where he helped young people find jobs and supervised them on their jobs. He then taught his remaining years at Rossford High School, teaching history and government to seniors. He always taught the Constitution, feeling it was important that seniors understood how important the Constitution was. He also made sure his seniors were registered to vote. Larry retired in 1991. He worked for Huntington Bank as a courier for a couple of years before taking the position of church secretary at the Rossford United Methodist Church, where he served for 18 years. He also sang in the church choir for many years, which he enjoyed.

Larry loved sports, was an avid fan of the “Indians,” the Browns and, especially, Ohio State. He also loved to golf and in later years kept saying he would love to play one more round of golf, which he was never able to do. He and his wife, Sue, enjoyed going on a number of cruises with friends.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue, and his children, Kim (Mike) Weyandt, Tim (Lonna) Perkins and Candy Perkins; grandchildren, Kaitlin Moore, Danielle Heinowski and Nate (Heather) Weyandt. He also is survived by his brother, Ed (Shirley) Perkins. He enjoyed his great-grandchildren, Averie and Colton Weyandt. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Madalene and Albert Perkins, and daughter, Cindy Doolin.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Mercy Health-Perrysburg and Hospice of Northwest Ohio, for their care and concern while Larry was there.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 3, at the Rossford United Methodist Church, at 1 p.m., with family visitation from noon to 1 p.m. After the service all are invited to continue visiting with family and friends and enjoying Larry’s favorite dessert, pie and ice cream.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Rossford United Methodist Church.
