Ormond Beach, Florida August 12, 1933 - March 15, 2024

Agnes Monica Steinmiller, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 12, 1933, Agnes, nicknamed “Cookie,” lived a life of kindness, compassion and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

Cookie was born in Toledo. She lived in Perrysburg, with her husband, Bill, until retiring in Florida. As a dedicated mom, she chose to stay at home to raise her children. Later, she launched a career as a secretary and eventually became executive sssistant to the superintendent of Perrysburg Public Schools.

Cookie was a woman of strong faith. She was baptized as a Catholic and later chose her beloved Trinity Lutheran Church to continue growing closer to God. When things got tough, she got down on her knees.

Cookie was full of life. Her energy rivaled that of people half her age. She faced every morning with purpose. Her resolve and desire to squeeze the most out of every day were inspiring. Nothing held her back; she lived life “all in.”

She was known for her graciousness and ability to brighten any room with her warm smile. Her glass was half full, her presence always welcoming and her stories well worth listening to.

Cookie was a devoted wife to her husband, Bill Steinmiller, until his passing, and a loving mother to her children, Catherine Weaver and Jim Steinmiller, and daughter-in-law, Julie Kowalski. Cookie cherished her role as a grandmother to Rachel (Tony) Scherley and Andrew Weaver. She took great joy in spoiling her great-grandchildren, Easton and Tanner Scherley, with love and affection.

Throughout her life, Cookie supported her country and those who served it. She bravely volunteered to spot enemy aircraft during World War II, gave time and resources to homeless veterans and supported our Wounded Warriors, who held a special place in her heart. There was never a time across her many years when Cookie wasn’t generously volunteering her time and resources to those in her community, often bringing hope to those who were forgotten or underserved. She brought comfort, support and gifts to homebound elderly and children of incarcerated parents. Her life-long volunteer efforts touched the lives of many, and her selflessness left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her dedication to her family and community, Cookie had a deep love for nature. She tended her garden every morning without fail and never let a day pass without learning more about gardening and horticulture. Cookie’s fondness for “playing in the dirt” brought many magnificent gardens to life.

Cookie’s memory will be cherished by her loving family and friends. She will be dearly missed. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

Memorial services for Cookie were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1205 Ridgewood Avenue, Holly Hill, Florida, on Sunday, March 24, following Palm Sunday Service at 10:15, Lunch and visitation started at 11:45 a.m., and the funeral service took place at 1 p.m.

In lieu of fresh flowers, the family requests donations to Cookie’s beloved Trinity Lutheran Church, or consider bringing butterflyattracting plants to be placed in memorial gardens created to celebrate Cookie’s life.
