Frank L. Pile, 80, passed away on June 13, 2023, at his home in Perrysburg. His passing was sudden and he experienced no pain.
Frank was born on July 11, 1942, to Jack and Edith (Estep) Pile in Charleston, West Virginia. After he graduated from Dunbar High School in 1960, he went on to study industrial engineering at West Virginia Wesleyan, prior to completing his degree from West Virginia University in 1965.
After graduating he began a 40-year career as an engineering leader with Libbey-Owens-Ford, that took him to several locations.
On June 25, 1966, he married Peggy Downey in Charleston, West Virginia. Frank and Peggy went on to have two children, John Thomas and Susan Lynn. They relocated to Perrysburg, in 1976, where the family was raised.
In 2005, Frank retired from L-O-F and began his second career as a substitute teacher for Perrysburg High School, where he made a strong impact on both faculty and students. Faculty often requested him to substitute for math and science classes.
He enjoyed Perrysburg athletics and would often watch games on the television.
He was active in the Kappa Alpha Order, helping to mentor and support new chapters and was inducted into the Court of Honor.
He had a life-long love of the Greenbrier River that led to a passion for kayaking on the Maumee River. Being on the river in his kayak was his ‘Happy Place.’
Frank always put others’ needs ahead of his own, and many were blessed and made better by having known him.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Jack (2003) and Edith (1998). He is survived by his wife, Peggy, of Perrysburg; his son, John; daughter-in-law, Julia (Schoenlein); granddaughter, Sophia Edith and grandson Joseph Luke of Florence, Kentucky. He also is survived by his daughter, Susan of Saline, Michigan.
As a “Papa” to Sophia and Joseph, he was very proud of their accomplishments and the adults they are becoming.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be given to the Way Public Library Foundation and Friends, of Perrysburg, foundation.way library.info/, or the Perrysburg Schools Foundation, perrys burgschoolsfoundation.org.
