Eric R. Dickey, 60, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at his residence with his loving wife, Sarah, by his side.

Eric was born July 26, 1966, in Toledo, to Willard and Virginia (Scofield) Dickey. He graduated from Interlochen Academy and went on to attend Bowling Green State University, where he began his professional music career. His passion for music eventually took him to Japan, where he traveled and performed and met his first wife, Yuriko.

Throughout his extensive career, Eric served as a music director for numerous congregations, including Faith Lutheran, First St. John’s Lutheran, Zoar Lutheran, All Saints Catholic and Community of Christ Lutheran Church. His musical gifts enriched countless worship services, and he was known for bringing his own distinctive style, warmth and creativity to every performance.

Eric also was a beloved jazz musician and a treasured member of the Toledo music community. He performed with many local favorites, including Ramona Collins, Lori LeFevre, Nate Gurley, Mark Lemle, Kevin Eikum, Will Kinsey, Scott Kretzer, Damon Cook, Chris Buzzelli, Norm Damschroder, Gene Parker, Scott Potter, Chris Giles, Ike Allen, Tom Ritter, Jeff Halsey, Vince Krolak and Jack Taylor, among many others. He performed with the Toledo Jazz Orchestra and had the privilege of collaborating with internationally renowned musicians including Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Terence Blanchard, Al Jarreau and Peter Erskine.

A talented composer as well as a performer, Eric created numerous works for solo vocalists and choral ensembles. Among his compositions was Missa Unitas, performed by the Toledo

Symphony at Zoar Lutheran in 2005, as well as Jazz Passion, written for jazz trio and vocals.

Eric will be remembered for his generous spirit and his willingness to collaborate with musicians of all backgrounds and experience levels. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a kind heart and an extraordinary ability to bring people together through music. Whether working with professional musicians, amateurs or a congregation, Eric made everyone feel welcome and valued.

Above all, Eric cherished his time with his wife, Sarah. Together they enjoyed traveling, playing and performing music on piano and violin, and attending concerts, theater and ballet performances. His love of music, his kindness, his humor and his generous spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.

Eric leaves behind a remarkable musical legacy and the love and memories of his family, friends, fellow musicians and the many communities he served. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Along with his wife, Sarah, Eric is survived by his brother, Marc, and his daughters, Reina and Shayna, and step-children, Henry, Jake and Kate. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lynnette.

Friends and family will be received Friday, August 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Witz-ler Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary Street, Perrysburg. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 29, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 428 North Erie Street, Toledo. Burial will be private.
