Christine “Chris” Hankins Martindale of Perrysburg, and Sanford, Florida, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away quietly in Lake Monroe, Florida, on May 13,2026.
Chris was a wonderful friend to many. She was a true lady, someone to be admired, who was loving, kind, a great listener, generous and who lived and loved life.
She was born August 30, 1941, at Toledo Hospital, to William M. and Margaret (Mulholland) Hankins. She was raised in Maumee, in the “House of Four Pillars”—the historic home which was a stop on the “underground railroad” and the house where Theodore Dreiser wrote his novel “Sister Carrie.” She graduated high school from the Maumee Valley Country Day School in Toledo, and from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, with a B.A. in elementary education.
Chris met her husband, Arthur Stephen “Steve” Martindale, in college and married him September 7, 1963.
They lived in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, area and then moved to Waterville, in 1974, and Perrysburg, in 1978. She was committed to her community. She was active in the Junior League of Toledo—notably serving there as the co-chairman of the committee to restore the Edward Drummond Libbey House; co-chair of the Skidmore College Alumni Club of Northwest Ohio; Planned Parenthood of Toledo; the Toledo Museum of Art; Cub Scouts-Den Mother; Junior Great Books program-moderator; Meals on Wheels-delivery, and more.
She was strong in her faith and active in her church, St. Timothy’s (Episcopal), in Perrysburg. A member for 48 years, Chris was active on numerous committees, clothesline, served on the vestry and was a senior warden. She also was a 48-year member of the Belmont Country Club and belonged to the Carranor Club.
Chris was an avid reader, tennis player, platform tennis player, golfer and sailor. She also was an enthusiastic sports fan and loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports and activities. Chris and her husband also were travelers, visiting 70 countries over a 40-year period. Her favorites were Botswana (Africa), Hong Kong (China), Argentina and the Baltic countries.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Martindale; son, Tim (Maureen) Martindale; daughter, Vicky (Tony) DalSanto; son, Steve (Allison) Martindale Jr.; grandchildren, Molly (Martindale) Dziubek, Dan (Olivia) Martindale, Mack Martindale, Thomas Carr, Callie Martindale, Mikey Martindale, Tripp Martindale, and greatgrandchild, Teagan Carr, plus many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Bruce Hankins and Mack Hankins.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., on Sunday, July 12, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 871 East Boundary Street in Perrysburg, preceded by visitation at the church with the family, starting at 1 p.m. Immediately following the service there will be a reception and celebration of her life at the Belmont Country Club.
Private interment will be the following day at Ft. Meigs Cemetery.
