On April 23, the Wood County sheriff’s office presented two patrol vehicles to Penta Career Center’s criminal justice program. The vehicles will be used in daily training activities. The 2016 Chevrolet Impala cruisers are in addition to two vehicles previously donated by the sheriff. Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn believes the donation is a sound investment, noting they are being used to train future law enforcement personnel. “This is a very generous donation from Wood County,” said Edward Ewers, superintendent of Penta Career Center. “Wood County and Sheriff Wasylyshyn have been very supportive of our public safety programs throughout the years, and these vehicles will help with daily training activities, traffic control and lot patrols.” Wood County Commissioners Doris Herringshaw, Craig LaHote and Dr. Theodore Bowlus attended the ceremonial handing over the keys by the sheriff to Penta criminal justice student Autumn Oberhauser of Maumee Schools, left. Students and staff from the criminal justice program also attended the presentation. Instructor Mike Willford said having four vehicles will help when his students attend school and other events, providing assistance as needed. He noted that the next step will be to send the vehicles to the automotive program where the vehicles’ decals will be stripped and inspected for any necessary maintenance.
