Sylvia J. Marsteller-Martinez, age 78, of Perrysburg, and formerly of Riverside, California, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Mercy Perrysburg Hospital. She was born on March 5, 1946, to Arthur and Maria (Ochoa) Marsteller in Tucson, Arizona. She had been blessed with two children from a previous marriage and was able to find love again marrying Dago Martinez on July 9, 1997, in Riverside. Dago lovingly provided and took care of Sylvia, particularly in her years of failing health. Sylvia and Dago celebrated nearly 28 years of marriage together.

Sylvia was a very independent and hardworking woman. In her early years she remained a single mom raising a son and making ends meet. A lady with a very strong work ethic, she worked in a world that seemed to maintain a glass ceiling. The environment she worked in never kept her from doing the very best job she could, and she expected the same from everyone else. Yes, Sylvia had her quirks, however, she remained diligent raising a son that gave her a granddaughter with the same strong values and independence. She ended her career before she retired as an office manager of a local group of funeral homes in California. When she came to Ohio, she worked briefly in the cafeteria at Owens-Illinois.

In her later years, she found faith again, and would devoutly pray the Rosary always asking God for the well being of her family. As noted, she was a strong woman and shared an opinion with whoever would listen. Her son remembers her always working, however, she enjoyed her Catholic faith and attended St. Rose of Lima in Perrysburg when she was able or watched Mass on TV. She also enjoyed attending weekly exposition when her health allowed. Her greatest joy remained her family, especially spending time with her granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, Dago, Sylvia is survived by her son and his wife, Ernie and Robin Marsteller of Perrysburg, and daughter, Christina (Manny Gutierrez) Marsteller of Tucson, Arizona; granddaughter, Antonette “Toni” Marsteller of Perrysburg, and brother, David Marsteller of California. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lionel Marsteller and Arthur O. Marsteller; sisters, Gloria Gonzales, Nelly O. Medrano, Estell Abilez and Lydia “Lilly” Marsteller.

The family plans to announce at a future date a Memorial Mass that will be celebrated at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg. Sylvia will be laid to rest at a family committal in St. Rose Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to St. Rose Catholic Church. Those who wish to express a word of encouragement or share a memory or photo may do so at marshfuneralhomes. com.
