Elizabeth “Betty” A. Haas, died Monday, June 9, 2025, peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born at home in Berkey, Ohio, on July 15, 1931, to Frank and Alice (Storeholder) Stein. She was the fifth of seven children and the fifth of their children who lived to celebrate a 90th birthday, all born in different houses.
She was the valedictorian of the Class of 1949 from Portage Township School, graduating with seven other students. Her grade school years were spent in Dowling-Dunbridge Schools. After graduation, she worked in the service department of Montgomery Ward in Bowling Green and the Rossford Ordinance Department.
She attended Northwest Ohio Practical Nursing School in Toledo and worked at Detwiler Hospital in Wauseon until her marriage to Duke Haas on November 27,1954, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bowling Green.
She considered her greatest achievement in life to be her 63-year marriage to Duke and the seven children who resulted. Betty always made time for family and loved spending time with her children and many grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons, Thomas (Dawn) Haas of Perrysburg; James (Sue) Haas of Scottsdale, Arizona; Joel Haas of Rossford; Alan Haas and Marty Haas of Perrysburg; daughters, Laura (Mark) Hummer and Victoria (Brian) Romp of Perrysburg; 15 grandchildren, Rebecca (Chris), Kimberly (Nick), Andrew (Becky), Steven (Blanca), Brittny, Brianna, Hannah, Nicholas (Alexandra), Elise (Wilfred), Danny, Rosalia, Maeven (Zack), Leo (Mallory), Boniface and Allyson; 13 greatgrandchildren, Eliza Jane, Max, Maggie, Annie, Eleanor Josephine, Cameron, Brennan, Lexi, Ryker, Aria, Rhett, Rosaline and baby Mayer. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Dot Sarver of Luckey, Peg Lauer of Perrysburg and Jeanette Stein of Custar.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2018, and brothers, Ed (Bonnie) Stein of Sarasota, Florida; Jim (MaryLue) Stein and Charlie Stein of Custer; sisters, Mary (Howard) Seifert of Bowling Green, Marcella (Lowell) Clingenpeel of Smithfield, Virginia, and Pat Stein of Perrysburg.
Friends and family will be received Monday, July 14, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Witzler- Shank-Walker Funeral Home, Perrysburg. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 East Front Street, Perrysburg. Burial will be private in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green.
