John C. McPherson, age 86, of Perrysburg, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, with his family near his side. He was born on August 28, 1936, in Bowling Green, to Lester and Loretta A. (Christen) McPherson. On June 6, 1959, he married Joanne K. Monroe in Bowling Green. John and Joanne raised four sons and celebrated nearly 53 years of marriage, before Joanne’s passing in August of 2012.

John worked as a teacher and basketball coach at McCord Junior High School for 35-plus years. He was a member of Christ Evangelical

Lutheran Church in Dowling. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Bowling Green Falcons, Ohio State Buckeyes, Toledo Walleye and Mud Hens. John was sharp as a tack, possessing a witty sense of humor. However, it was his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him the greatest joy.

John is survived by his sons, Jeff (Terri) McPherson of McClure, Jay (Katy) McPherson of Perrysburg, Jon (Kris) McPherson of Tennessee and Joel (Becky) McPherson of Dublin; grandchildren,: Katy (Eric) Bissell, Kimberly (Chase) Muir, Annie (Erica) Lipstraw, Ryan McPherson, Kevin (Brittany) McPherson, Kyle (Tina) McPherson, Michael (Amanda) McPherson, Andrew McPherson and Grace McPherson; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Josie, Lucy, Kamryn, Kinsley, Karsyn and Stella; sister, Janet (Larry) Shaffer; sister-in-law, Jane McPherson, and brother-in-law, David Monroe. In addition to his wife, Joanne, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim McPherson, and sisterin-law, Karen Reynolds. Family and friends will be received 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 6, at the Marsh and Marsteller Funeral Home, 110 West Main, Luckey. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, April 7, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 22552 Carter Road, Bowling Green. There will be additional visitation starting at 10 a.m., until time of services. John will be laid to rest with Joanne at New Belleville Ridge Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Bob Noble.
