Irene Ula Gonyer, age 99, of Pemberville, and formerly of Perrysburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Otterbein Senior Living in Pemberville. She was born Irene U. Vaughn on September 17, 1925, in Greenville, Tennessee, to John and Dora (Richards) Vaughn. She married William E. Gonyer on November 14, 1942, in Bowling Green. Irene and William raised two daughters, and celebrated 46 years of marriage before William’s passing in 1988.
Irene worked as a homemaker looking after and taking care of her family. She was known for her homemade noodles and Chex-mix at Christmas time. She enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, her pet cats and dogs, playing euchre, and was even referred to as the Euchre Queen. She also enjoyed keeping a meticulous home, however, it was spending time with her family that was her greatest joy of all.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Patty (Henry) Carr of Indiana; grandchildren, Todd (Kelly) Reither of Pemberville, Wade Carr of Indiana, David Carr of Indiana, Bob (Sandie) Reither of Florida; 10 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, William, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sue Reither; grandson, Jason Carr; greatgrandson, infant Auston Carr; twin sister, Ilene Smith, and other sister, Ruby; brothers, Murtan, Paul, Dennis, Hack and Richard.
Family and friends were received 9 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service at 11 a.m., Monday, February 24, at the Marsh and Marsteller Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville. Officiating was Pr. Peter Johnston. Interment was in Old Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore.
