MARY LU STRATSO

Body
The sun had not risen on Sunday morning, but Mary Lu could wait no longer. She passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 28, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Tiffin, Ohio, on July 17, 1940, to parents Carl J. and Helen C. (Thiery) Sauber. Her family moved to Bellevue, Ohio, when she was 12, and she was a 1958 graduate of Bellevue High School. She married David A. Stratso on June 17, 1961, and relocated with him as his career took him to Lancaster, Ohio, New Jersey and then to Toledo. They settled in Perrysburg in 1973, where they raised their family of three daughters, Nancy, Betsy and Cynthia.

EDITH “EDEE” LYNN PROSHEK

Edith L. Proshek, 71, of Holland, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Edee was born August 17, 1951, in Fort Knox, Kentucky, to Edward and Henrietta (Vavrik) Kleinfelter. She was a 1969 graduate of Perrysburg High School. Edee married Rodney Proshek on March 17, 1978, and they shared 44 years together.

Robert E. Stallter, 88, of Perrysburg, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022. Bob was born May 7, 1934, in Mendon, Ohio, to Carl and Helen (Dick) Stallter.

William E. Brooks, 95, of Newark, died Monday, August 22, 2022, at Randall Residence of Newark.

RICHARD ALAN GROSS

Surrounded by those closest to him, Richard Alan Gross of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, formerly of Perrysburg, passed away on March 24, 2022, aged 68, after a yearlong battle with leukemia Born in Toledo, he is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Cynthia (Cindy – née Ivancic); children, Sarah, John and Alex Gross, Colleen Clexton, and granddaughter, Madilyn Press; his siblings, Ron (Amy) Gross, Steve (Susan) Gross, Nancy (Bob) Seybold, Karen (Greg) Bakies and Tim Gross; father- in-law, Charles Ivancic; brothers-in-law, Mark (Colleen) and Paul (Leah) Ivancic; several nieces and nephews, and many special He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and O. Virginia Gross; brother, Michael, and mother-in-law, Rick was awarded an outstanding alumnus from Penta Career Center in 2003.

JOHN D. KURFESS

John Kurfess, 84, left this earth for eternal life on August 18, 2022. He was born in Wood County on November 3, 1937, and has been a lifetime resident of the Perrysburg area. John was a graduate of Troy Luckey High School, now known as Eastwood High School. He was a three-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, with active duty from 1955 to 1958, completing two U.S. Navy Class A service schools. John’s career included 18 years in production agriculture, owning and operating a dairy and contract tomato growing business for Heinz and Hunt processing companies. His second career was as owner and president of Valleybrook Realty, Inc., a real estate and small development company.

MARTHA (SPECK) THORNTON

through 2021 with trips to places such as Alaska, Yellowstone, New York, Yosemite, London, Paris, Grand Canyon, Zion, Banff, Mount Rushmore, Arches, Washington D.C., Monument Valley and many, many others. She often said how lucky and grateful she was to have been able to personally see such beautifully amazing places. Martha always astonished her fellow travelers with her enthusiasm and readiness to discover the next adventure.

PHILLIP S. BRONDES SR.

Phillip S. Brondes Sr., 90, of Perrysburg, went home peacefully surrounded by his family, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Tuesday January 11. He was born February 7, 1931, in Toledo, to Donald and Helen Brondes. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy, and went on to study at Duke University.

MARK W. MUIR

Salt Lake City, before returning to Perrysburg, where he established and co-owned, with his brother, Fat Jack’s Bar and Grill. In 2012, Mark suffered a horrific accidental fall, leaving him partially paralyzed. Cathy assisted him daily thereafter. Cathy, a former nurse, with support from his family and especially Phil and Sandi Dombey, helped Mark live the best life possible. She was by his side up until the moment of his passing.
