After 55 years of living in Perrysburg, Thora Elizabeth Swirbul passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. She was born April 5, 1931, in Danbury, Connecticut, to parents Marcus Henry and Thora Elizabeth Sullivan. She was 91 years young.
Thora was involved in all kinds of clubs and activities. She played tennis and paddle tennis at Carranor Hunt and Polo Club. Out of the Perrysburg Boat Club, she sailed a sunfish on the Maumee River. She was a member of the Perrysburg Garden Club and for decades worked every election as a poll worker in her precinct.
Frequently, Thora could be seen riding her bike around town. She walked to work at Leatherman and Witzler and went to the post office every day to mail something. Thora attended lectures at Way Public Library and never missed a parade along Louisiana Avenue.
Thora married William Richard Swirbul on June 2, 1956. They had two children, Kimberly Anne of Perrysburg and William Richard Jr. “Brick” (Rebecca) of Carbondale, Colorado. Thora had two grandchildren, Keegan and Hailey Swirbul. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill of 62 years.
A Celebration of Life for Thora will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, June 2, at the First Presbyterian Church in Maumee.
