Paul James Evans, age 97, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born in Toledo, on June 16, 1927, the son of Frank and Anna (Kaukusch) Evans. Paul began his military journey by joining the U.S. Navy on June 29, 1944, at the young age of 17 to serve in World War II. He served as a cook third class on USS Ship L.S.T. 940. On this ship, the crew landed troops in Okinawa and Iwo

Jima. His general quarters station was gun crew; working a 20 mm anti-aircraft gun. Paul was proud to serve his country and remained a patriot for the rest of his life.

Paul was employed with N&W Railroad, as a bridge gang worker, for 30-plus years, until his retirement. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed woodworking of any kind. Although, his favorite things to make were ships and boats.

Paul married Mary Jane (Kubiak) Evans on July 2, 1949, and together, the two had six children.

Paul is survived by his children, John (Charmaine) Evans, Susan (Ronald) Gaut, William (Marlene) Evans and Kathryn (Daniel) Fern; grandchildren, Tonya (Matthew) Garner, Felicia Gaut, Stephanie Gaut, Christopher (Bernia) Fern, Alex (James) Swonger and KateLynn Fern; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brennen, Bradley, Alan Jr., Charles, Nicholas, Avery, Landon and Sawyer, and Malaya. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna Evans; loving wife, Mary Jane, and two sons, Frankie and Tommy Evans.

A visitation was held Tuesday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, with a funeral service at noon. Burial took place at St. Rose Cemetery, following the service.
