Joseph McGivern, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, September 18, at the age of 84, in the comfort of his home. Joseph had a stroke a couple days before and never awoke. On his last days awake, he got to enjoy his favorite team, Notre Dame, win, and his last meal was a crème brule—his all time favorite. As last days go–they could not have been better.

Joseph was born on April 14, 1940, to Joseph and Fern McGivern in Cleveland. He met his wife Beverly there, and got married in 1963. Just a few years later, they left Cleveland and lived in several different cities, including Streamwood, Illinois; Liverpool, New York, and Wilmington, Delaware, before finally settling in Perrysburg in 1978, just in time for the blizzard.

Joseph started his career working for the Automotive Service Industry Association, then in 1972 he accepted a position with Prestolite, where he remained until 1980. At that time, he left Prestolite to go to work with his son, Michael, in his business. They worked together at McGivern Jewelers for 40 years, until his retirement.

Joseph was a longtime member of the Zenobia Lancers, as well as the Maumee Elks, where he was a past exalted ruler.

Joseph is survived by his two sons, Michael (Trina) and Kevin, both of Perrysburg; two grandchildren, Sean and Katie, along with their mother, Michele Benyi; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Theodore; his brother, Bernard (Eileen); his sister, Maura, and special sister-in-law, Joyce Zorko. A special thanks to Herb Hoskins, who was a wonderful caregiver toward the end. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; sisters, Patricia and Eileen, and his brother, Jim.
