Janet Louise Martell passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Mercy Health Perrysburg on December 30, 2023, at the age of 89. She was the daughter of Ross and Gladys (Hafer) Hall, born in Elkhart, Indiana, on June 27, 1934. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Ronald Martell; her only sister, Phyllis Hawk; a dear niece, Kathy (Hawk) Nicosia, and her parents.

She worked as a church secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart, Indiana, for many years before she married the love of her life on December 29, 1971, and moved to Perrysburg with him where they served their church community at the First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg for 20-plus years. She sang in the church choir and performed countless services like organizing the “giving tree” at Christmas and serving home-baked cookies to parishioners on Christmas Eve. Her last job before she retired was at the Anderson’s in Maumee, which she loved. She was a “dog mom” to many beloved pets over the years and dearly loved animals. Later in life, she became a master gardener and volunteered with the 577 Foundation. She also was an active member of PEO, a women’s philanthropic organization.

Janet is survived by her three stepchildren, Dr. Daniel (Christine) Martell, Paul Martell and Laura (Charles) Boinske, and grandchildren, Katie and Sarah Martell and Christian and Charles Boinske, in addition to her two nephews, Jim and Larry (Patti) Hawk; niece, Kim (Jeff) Meyer, and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, East Second Street and Elm Street in Perrysburg, on Friday, January 19, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Kathryn Riveria Torea officiating.
