Body

Donald Lee Cummings, age 78, passed away on March 3, 2022. Don was born on June 1, 1943. He grew up in Wisconsin and later moved to West Virginia.

Don joined the U.S. Navy immediately after high school graduation and shortly thereafter married his beautiful wife, Glenda. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree and high honors from Miami University, and later earned his MBA from Duke University. He served first on the USS Robinson and last on the USS Saipan (with many others in between), earning a long list of medals and awards. He retired after 20 years as an honored lieutenant commander. After retirement, he moved to Perrysburg, to work at Owens Corning, but shortly thereafter formed his own consulting business.

Don enjoyed gardening, fishing and collecting (stamps, coins, art, other). He also enjoyed frequent travel, including many trips to Disney World, long Disney and Princess cruise ship vacations with his wife, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Don is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 58 years, Glenda (Wilson) Cummings, and their three children, Donna (Eric) Fisher, Donald (Maria) Cummings, Carmen (Mike Martucci) Cummings; three grandchildren, Chelsea Marie Cummings, Matthew Eric Fisher and Jessica Lee Fisher, and his brother, Leonard Francis Cummings Jr., and other loving relatives. He is preceded in death by his father, Leonard Cummings; his mother, Opal (Pence) Cook, and brothers, Michael Cummings and Richard Hammes.

Funeral services were held at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home in Perrysburg on March 5, at 3 p.m. A short visitation preceded the service, starting at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Don’s honor to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or First Baptist Church in Perrysburg.
