 A memorial service will be held for David Saunders at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Broadway, Maumee, on Friday, August 9, at 3 p.m.

Dave, born in Toledo, to Lois (Long) and well-known serial strip writer and cartoonist Allen Saunders, was a longtime resident of Perrysburg. He passed away peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, after a brief illness. He built his business as an interior designer, first in Maumee, then in Perrysburg, where he converted an old neighborhood gas station on Front Street into showrooms, offices and an upholstery shop.

He was known by his family and friends as a lover of tennis and golf, international travel, music and theater.

Dave was preceded in death by Charlotte (May 3, 2021), and is survived by their children, Cynthia “Cindy” Kurtz, Scott (Carol) and David, as well as three grandchildren, Timothy Kurtz (Sarah), John Saunders (Nina) and Cameron Saunders (Brandon), and five great-grandchildren, Calvin Saunders, Charlotte Saun-ders, Iris Saunders, Lydia Saunders and Olivia Kurtz. He is also survived by his two sisters, Penny (Saunders) Carson and Lois Ann (Saunders) Morgan. He was predeceased by his brother, John (November 15, 2003).
