Arlen Brubaker was accepted into the arms of Jesus on March 20, 2025. He was born in Tiffin, on February 26, 1933. He graduated from Hopewell-Loudon High School in 1951. He graduated in 1955 with a bachelor of science in education from Heidelberg College and earned a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University in 1959.
After short stints in Sulphur Springs and Fostoria, he started to teach at Maumee High School in 1960 and remained there until he retired in 1986. He also taught evening mathematics classes at Owens Technical College from 1973 until 1996. In addition, he performed interior and exterior painting with other teachers for nearly 20 years during the summer months.
Arlen was a charter member of Perrysburg Alliance Church, lovingly serving his Lord in the choir and with numerous terms as church deacon and elder.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed flower gardening, tending to his fruit orchard consisting of almost two dozen fruit trees, traveling, watching his grandchildren grow up, putting together jigsaw puzzles and playing games with his family and Solitaire on the computer.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth Ann (King); children, Jayne (Dené) Helwig, Darlene (Paul) Lewis, David (Tina), Kevin (Sheila) and Beth (Joe) Gdowik; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arlen was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ruth (Cook), and brother, Burton.
The family received guests Monday, March 24, from 3 to 7 p.m., in the Newcomer SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Boulevard, Toledo, and at the Perrysburg Alliance Church, 10401 Avenue Road, Perrysburg, on Tuesday, March 25, at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. A private interment service was held later in the day.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Perrysburg Alliance Church or Northwest Ohio Hospice.
