Michael Joseph Gehring passed away peacefully on June 17, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, after a courageous four-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mike was born in Fostoria, Ohio, on May 14, 1954, to Joseph L. and Margie E. (Finch) Gehring. He attended St. Wendelin Elementary and High School, and went on to receive a bachelor of science in biology/chemistry from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. He had a successful career at Master Chemical Corporation for 32 years, retiring in 2009.
Mike liked to travel with family. His favorite place was Door County, Wisconsin, which also is where he and Patti honeymooned. He enjoyed going on cruises, bicycle touring, cross-country ski weekends with friends and hiking through parks with Patti.
Mike was a member of the Rockne Athletics Fund, Knute Rockne Memorial Society, Notre Dame Badin Guild and the Indiana Postal History Society. He was best known for his love of the University of Notre Dame, particularly the football and women’s basketball programs, traveling to all of ND’s home football games.

Patrice Mary (Mayer); nephew, Matthew (Jordan) Gehring, and grand-nieces, Harper and Charlotte Gehring.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margie; sister, Kathleen; brother, Jeffrey, and infant brother and sisters, Danny, Mary Alice and Ann Marie Gehring.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Road, Waterville. His funeral service will be held the next morning on Wednesday, July 15, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home.
