Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Schaf, 74, died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 21, 2025. She was bom in Perrysburg, on November 3, 1950, to Helen (Schuster) and Edwin “Pete” Bernard.

She graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1968 and attended the University of Toledo, earning a bachelor of arts degree in education.

She married Peter Marshall Schaf in 1976 in Perrysburg, where they lived for 47 years.

Betsy dedicated 31 years of her life to education, teaching first, third and fourth grade, but her passion was teaching kindergarten, which she taught for 25 years, using her creativity and enthusiasm to make sure that each and every child left her classroom knowing they were wonderful just as they are. While teaching kindergarten at Toth Elementary School, Betsy received the George Munger award and the Perrysburg Schools Teacher of the Year award.

Betsy loved gardening, spending hours in her beautiful yard working with her husband, Pete. Pete and Betsy also were huge fans of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. They had so much fun attending Tribe games together, traveling to the beach, walking in uptown Perrysburg and drinking margaritas with friends and family. Pete was her anchor and the love of her life.

Betsy is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Jon) Main, and grandsons, JP and Camden of Loveland, Ohio; her sister, Debbe (Tom) Becker of Raleigh, North Carolina; her brothers, Brad Bernard of Atlanta, Georgia, and Peter Bernard of Cincinnati, as well as many nieces and nephews. Betsy was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; her parents, and her sister-in-law, Debbie Matte Bernard.
