1939 – 2025

A true original left us on July 3, 2025. He was an artist, engineer, comedian, entertainer, mechanic, pontificator, professor, husband, father, grandfather, friend and so much more to so many.

Jed was born February 4, 1939, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Elliot J. and Josephine (Hise) Kies. He was raised in the Canton-Massillon area. Following Lehman High School, Jed attended Ohio State University, where he received his bachelor of fine arts degree. After graduation, Jed worked at Columbus Showcase in Columbus, Ohio, which also is where he first met Lynda Wald, through a good friend. They married April 16, 1966, and raised their two wonderful sons, Jared Elliot and Geoffrey Rhodes.

He started his industrial design career as a project manager for Owens-Corning Fiberglas in Granville, Ohio. A few years later, he relocated to work at Schuss Design in Columbus, Ohio, where he became vice-president of the business. An opportunity arose to rejoin Owens-Corning Fiberglas of Toledo at their new design center. As a result of his work, he was the holder of numerous patents. He and Lynda moved the family to Perrysburg. Years later, he started his own company, Design Resource, where he retired in 2017.

Aside from his career, Jed enjoyed relaxing on a porch in northern Michigan and spending time with his friends— whether it be chasing his errant ball on the golf course or telling tall tales at the pub.

Jared is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lynda, and his sons, Jared E. and Geoff R., along with six grandchildren, Maizie, Preston, Spencer, Ari, Brecken and Billy.

Jed will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 14, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Fifth Street Pub, 105 West Fifth Street, Perrysburg. Family and friends are invited.
