Merle was a United States Army veteran who served honorably during the Vietnam War.

He shared a deep and enduring bond with his first wife, Donna, whom he grew up alongside and their relationship was rooted in a lifelong friendship and love. She preceded him in death on June 21, 1990.

Merle found love again and married his wife, Cathy, on November 1, 2003. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories, companionship and mutual care.

Merle found joy in woodworking, collecting antiques, visiting Amish country and spending time with animals, especially his beloved dogs.

He is survived by his loving family, who will carry forward his legacy of strength, love and devotion.
