Harold M. Stanford Jr., 85, of Naples, Florida, passed away on January 3, 2025.
Harold “Hal” was born on May 19, 1939, in Perrys burg, to Harold M. Stanford Sr. and Helen L. (Baker) Stanford.
He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1957. He received an ROTC scholarship to Brown University, where he earned a bachelor of science in chemistry. Later, he earned a master’s degree in oceanography from Oregon State University, and an addition al master’s degree in business from Columbia University.
After graduating from Brown University, he entered the U.S. Navy as an officer, retiring after 30-plus plus years, as a captain.
He then proceeded to another successful career as an oceanographer with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for another 30-plus years.
Hal is survived by daughter, Elizabeth (Edwin) Fuchs; son, Michael (Megan) Stanford; grand children, Ryan Fuchs, Shan non Fuchs and Hannah Stanford; sisters, Judith Stanford and Susan Stan ford; nephews, Jeff, Ken and David Stanford, and niece, Debbie Stanford. He was preceded in death by his parents, and younger brother Ronald E. Stanford.
He will be greatly missed.
Friends and family will be received Saturday, January 11, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Fort Meigs Union Cemetery.
