James “Jim” Richard McMorgan, 60, of Maumee, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024, at his residence after a long, hard battle with stage four kidney failure. Jim was born May 19, 1964, in Toledo, to Richard and Irene (Delmonte) McMorgan. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1982, where he excelled in basketball and football. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Toledo. Jim married Cherie Meadows on August 12, 2000, and they spent 23 years together.
Jim was a social studies teacher for Toledo Public Schools for more than 30 years. He also was the Perrysburg Summer Recreation director for more than 20 years. He was a history buff and loved to teach his boys about history. Jim was an avid North Carolina Tar Heels basketball fan and a Toledo Rockets fan. He enjoyed watching MASH and could probably recite every episode.
The joy of his life was watching his youngest son, Cole, play basketball and his oldest son, Mason, manage football, basketball and baseball.
Along with his wife, Cherie, James is survived by his two sons, Mason Richard and Cole James; his father, Richard; sister, Joanie (Marcia Fairchild) McMorgan, and special cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene; mother-in-law, Connie Meadows, and grandmotherin- law, Mae Meadows. A special thanks go out to the “Six Pack,” Darlene Condon and Aunt Sandy and Marcia Fairchild for taking Jim to dialysis.
Friends and family were received Tuesday, May 28, from 1 to 7 p.m., at Witz-ler Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 East. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg. Burial was private.
