Margie Carolyn Gallagher, age 91, of Perrysburg, passed away October 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 20, 1932, in Rossford, to Herbert and Mabel (Lewis) Brown. Margie earned her bachelor’s degree in education, and master’s degree in counseling from Bowling Green State University. She taught sixth grade in the Perrysburg Schools for 25 years. She was beloved by her students for her creative teaching style. She was honored with the George C. Munger and Elizabeth M. Munger Award for Outstanding Educator. Her students will fondly remember her as the “Apple Lady” for her extensive collection of apple themed home décor, most of which were gifts from students.
Margie had a passion for the theater, which led to her participation in many community theater productions. Her favorite roll was starring as Bloody Mary in
“South Pacific.” Margie created the Brown Bag Theater productions at Perrysburg Schools. Gifted with a beautiful voice, Margie sang with the Suburban Singers and the choir at Perrysburg First Church. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Margie loved to travel the world and was delighted that she was able to take each one of her grandsons on a trip.
Margie was always smiling and was ready for a good party. She will be missed for her great sense of humor. Margie was a friend to everyone she met.
She is survived by her children, James (Diana), Thomas (Linda) and Sandra Gallagher; son-in-law, Charles Swisher; grandchildren, Lucas (Mindy) and Brent (Robin); and greatgrandchildren, James and Natasha. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carolyn Swisher; grandson, Brad, and brother, Benjamin (Marilyn) Brown.
Family and friends visited on Thursday, October 19, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford. The funeral service was Friday, October 20, at 11 a.m., at Perrysburg First. Interment followed in Fort Meigs Cemetery.
