Richard Victor Rosenlund, 82, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away on September 11, 2023. He was born November 15, 1940, to Bror Ernie and Evelyn (Williams) Rosenlund, in Toledo.
Richard, affectionally known as “Dick” or “Rosy,” married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Dargan, on February 4, 1961, at Collingwood Methodist Church, Toledo. They remained married for 61 years, until Joyce’s passing on May 15, 2022. Dick and Joyce, along with their two children, Todd and Tara, moved to Perrysburg, where they lived until 2020, before moving to Clearwater.
Richard attended Macomber High School and then the University of Toledo, graduating in 1966 with a degree in civil engineering. Richard’s career as a civil engineer spanned more than 45 years with various companies like Moree Associates, Mannick and Smith, and Feller and Finch. During his career, he designed many neighborhoods and developments such as St. James Wood, Three Meadows, Pheasant Run, Southwood Park, Oakmont and Toledo Zoo, in Perrysburg, Toledo and surrounding areas. He was the most sought after subdivision designer in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. His favorite part of designing neighborhoods and developments was naming the multiple streets. He even named some after his grandchildren.
Outside of Richard’s career, he had many passions and hobbies involving his family, friends, church and travel. Dick and Joyce were involved parents and grandparents, spending their free time attending every school event and parties. They had many friend groups (Tripoli, bridge, church choir, golf, etc.) in which they spent their time playing cards, hosting parties and lunch dates. Dick and Joyce were very involved in their local church, Perrysburg Alliance, where Dick sang in the choir. Singing was not only a passion of Dick’s, it was also something he was very talented at. Dick also sang in many cantatas, solos, to his children, grandchildren and wife. Dick and Joyce spent their time traveling, mostly to Florida. One of their favorite places was Limetree Resort in Sarasota, Florida, where they spent many Thanksgivings.
He is survived by his brother, Donald Rosenlund; children, Todd (Dawn) Rosenlund, Tara (Breen) Lyden; grandchildren, Evelyn Tammarine, Troy Rosenlund and Holly Rosenlund, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
A private family memorial will be held in Sarasota, Florida, this November.
Memorials may be made to the Toledo Humane Society.
