On August 22, 2023, Shirley “Ginger” Haar passed away from leukemia (AML). She was married to James Haar for 28 years. She was a loving mother to Jennifer Biegala (Bill) and stepmother to Jennifer Haar. She also was a grandmother to Chris (Kyle), Jon (Alicia) and James (Amber), and great-grandmother to six children. Ginger didn’t believe family was defined by blood and was called Mom by daughter, Jan, and son, Jason, and sister to John.
Ginger retired from 18 years of public service as Perrysburg Township’s chief
fiscal officer, an elected position. Ginger was active in her community. She was on the board of the friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, where she was instrumental in getting an Ohio specialty license plate approved. She also was an active auxiliary member at VFW Post 9963 in Walbridge, where she initiated a change from balloon releases on Memorial Day to a release of birds rehabilitated at Nature’s Nursery. She also enjoyed volunteering at events for Nature’s Nursery.
Ginger was a friend to all and loved by many. She had trouble with saying “No,” and was often helping someone. She will be greatly missed, but we know she will be watching over us.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at VFW Post 9963, 109 Main Street, Walbridge. In lieu of flowers, please donate to fund a memorial for Ginger to be placed at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Donations can be directed to daughter, Jennifer Biegala, at 5048 Trimble, Toledo, Ohio 43613.
