Ludwig named Exchange Club student of the month

The Perrysburg Exchange Club has named Allison Ludwig as the November Student of the Month. A senior at Perrysburg High School, Allison has a grade point average of 4.5 and is a member of the PHS strings orchestra and Toledo Youth Orchestra.

TOPICS Camera Club, a non-profit organization open to everyone, will meet Wednesday, December 13, at 6:30 p.m., at the Monclova Community Center, 8115 Monclova Road, Monclova.

Perrysburg Twp. food distribution

The Perrysburg Township food distribution will be held Thursday, December 14, from 8 to 10 a.m. The township fire department will sponsor the food give-away at the township building, 26609 Lime City Road, the second Thursday of each month.

Volunteers sought for NAMI chip-in days

Each month, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County hosts a chip-in day for community members to volunteer and give back. The volunteers can help in the NAMI office with tasks and projects such as data entry, folding, scrapbooking, filing, making phone calls and more.

First day of winter is Thursday, December 21

Winter begins on December 21 and ends on March 19, 2024. Many people lament the arrival of winter, perhaps thinking the colder temperatures and shorter hours of sunlight will compromise their chances to have fun.

Mitten tree donations accepted through Dec. 14

The Perrysburg Messenger Journal office, 130 Louisiana Avenue, is collecting winter accessories for distribution to area families in need this holiday season. Residents are invited to hang new mittens, gloves, scarves or hats on the tree.

Perrysburg Twp. trustees move forward with administration building, current facility plans

Plans for a new administration building are back on track with approval by the Perrysburg Township trustees to seek requests for qualifications. At the December 6 meeting, the trustees gave the green light to Administrator Jon Eckel to seek RFQs from area firms for designbuild services for construction of the approximately 9,000-square-foot singlestory structure.

Perrysburg Twp. fire dept. earns hazmat three status

At the November 6 meeting, the Perrysburg Township trustees learned that the fire department has been recognized as a class three hazmat team by the Ohio Department of Public Safety. “We are the first and only one in Wood County,” said Fire Chief Tom Brice, adding, “That is a pretty big deal for Perrysburg Township.” The chief said the department was considered for class two, but he believes they lack personnel and “we only applied for type three.” According to the Ohio Response System, class three is “an organized public safety hazmat/WMD response team with at least 10 members trained to the hazmat technician level and which meets the specific HMTAC criteria for being certified as a type three team.
