Doris (Dodie) Percy Strauss 95, of Glen Arbor, Michigan, passed on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City, Michigan. She was living in her home in Glen Arbor, Michigan, until going to the Hospice House.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois, June 11, 1925, and grew up in the Chicago area with her two brothers, Senator Charles Percy (deceased) and Howard Percy (deceased) and her parents, Elisabeth and Edward Percy. She graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. She then completed her freshman year at Beloit College.

Dodie met Bob Strauss, the love of her life, and married him as World War II was winding down. Bob then left shortly after, as he was stationed in Japan. Upon returning from the war, Bob and Dodie started their family, raising four surviving children, all married with families; Lynn Jacobson, Peg McCarty, Kim Polman, and Tom Strauss. She also is survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Dodie was not only an exceptional mother and adoring wife, she worked very hard as a volunteer for numerous organizations. She served the Christian Science Church in many ways, including chairman of the board and second reader. She also served in a leadership roll for the Fox Valley Symphony in Appleton, Wisconsin, and was very active in the League of Women voters, where she served as membership chairman for several years in Perrysburg.

Dodie especially enjoyed entertaining her friends and family with many delicious meals, spreading her joy and love to all. She always made everything more fun, looking for the good in every person she came in contact with and every situation she was a part of. A memorial service will take place on Lake Michigan in August, when the whole family can gather to celebrate her life.
