MaryAnne (Foley) Birr was called home on May 29, 2022, at the age of 79. She was the daughter of Clare and Anne Foley. MaryAnne was a resident of Perrysburg at the time of her death, but lived for many years previously in Toledo.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, H. Thomas Birr; daughters, Lisa (Chris Cornelius), Karen (Joe Segoviano), Cindy (Adam Daudelin), Beverly Schwartz, and her loving brothers, Patrick, Paul, Michael and Robert.
MaryAnne was born in Windsor, Ontario, and later attended Wayne State University. She worked as a medical transcriptionist and served as a member of the Discalced Carmelite order.
With an adventurous heart and simplistic nature, MaryAnne raised three daughters and became Nannie to eight grandchildren.
She lived in the present and prioritized fun, as she often exclaimed “The dishes can wait!” believing there were more important matters, which included coffee chats, card games, story books and hopscotch.
Mom was a free spirit with flashes of childlike silliness, Irish mischief and a passion for music. She never missed an opportunity to sway around the house while doing chores, but always preferred waltzing with Tom, her beloved husband and favorite dance partner of 52 years.
Marveling at God’s creation and every aspect of nature, Mom found joy in singing birds, colorful flowers and the rush of wind with the spray of the lake as she and dad sped along in the fishing boat.
We will always treasure images of mom at the sewing machine, piano bench or keeping watch over a bubbling pot of strawberry jam. Nuggets of wisdom and professions of faith were woven within her talents.
Loved ones are invited to gather and honor MaryAnne’s life at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2240 Castlewood Drive, Toledo, on Saturday, June 11, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a Funeral Mass beginning at 11 a.m.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, Perrysburg. Condolences may be made to the family online at walker funeralhomes.com.
