Joe Sparks, 66, owner of Joe’s Yoga and Fitness in Perrysburg, is preparing to make his second bi-annual fundraising swim. He plans to swim 10 miles of the Maumee River on Sunday, June 12.

The event will start at 9 a.m., at the Hood Park dock in downtown Perrysburg, and end at approximately 3 p.m., at Toledo’s Glass City Metropark. It will be followed by a celebratory gathering near the park pavilion.

Donations are being accepted for this year’s nonprofit, NAOMI, an organization dedicated to providing shelter, support and beneficial services for women overcoming alcohol and substance abuse.

Certified by the Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services (OMHAS) and accredited by CARF, NAOMI helps clients recover, reunite with their families and children, and find employment and permanent housing.

Mr. Sparks has supported NAOMI residents’ recovery by teaching them yoga. He said he is inspired to help the organization recover from the pandemic with this fundraising event.

Donations per swim mile can be made at naomith.org.
