Perrysburg City Council heard an update on the water tower maintenance and painting project during the March 15 meeting.

Bridgette Kabat, city administrator, said Seven Brothers Painting recently took photos of the tower and gave them to a graphic artist.

In addition to scheduled maintenance, the city will either request the current silhouette be painted a different color or engage the painters to depict a different scene.

“Seven Brothers will provide the city with proposals,” she said, adding that council will receive another update at the March 31 meeting.

Ms. Kabat also mentioned the city has received a DORA (designated outdoor refreshment area) application from Levis Commons.

“We are reviewing it,” she noted.

Levis Commons had applied to become a DORA location a few years ago, as did business establishments in the downtown area, the latter of which council approved.

In other business, council:

•Heard the first reading of a proposal for a street tree assessment to maintain and plant street trees in the public right-of-way.

It is a 12-month assessment calculated at 0.1 mills, which is expected to generate about $70,000 in revenue.

The public is invited to comment at April 5 meeting, during which council will hear a second reading of the proposal.

•Approved entering into an agreement with UBS Financial Services for advisory and investments management services.

“Five submittals were received and UBS was chosen because their rates were lower, they included custodial services and they have experience with public funds and municipal investing,” according to Kate Sandretto, law director.

•Heard the first reading of a proposal on how to use the federal American Recovery and Rescue Plan Act funds for expenses.

The city is scheduled to receive $2,269,868 in funds in two disbursements, the first of which took place last September.

Proposed use of funds: LED streetlight conversion-$250,000; all-inclusive playground-Woodlands Park: $740,000; new playground for Municipal Park: $250,000; new playground for Bicentennial Park: $230,000; new Rotary pickleball court amenities: $100,000; LED street lights for Roachton: $45,000; fencing for playground-Woodlands Park: $27,300; fencing for Three Meadows: $18,900; upgrade pedestrian crossing: $25,000; design fees for passive park in McKinley Woods: $82,000; and supply chain issues /price increases: $125,000.

The public is invited to comment at the next council meeting, during which council will hear the second reading.

•Approved a community reinvestment area (CRA) agreement with St. Luke’s McLaren Hospital and SEP Perrysburg.

The property owner of the property with an assigned CRA at 7045 Lighthouse Way, along with St. Luke’s McLaren Hospital, sold the property in late 2021 to SEP.

Council approved transferring the CRA agreement to the new property owner.

•Terminated a cooperative agreement with the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and authorizing the city to send notice of the termination to the Wood County auditor and other requisite parties.

This took place to remove the special lien on the property, which was inherited due to the timing of the sale.

•Approved changing the square footage distinction between small and large gyms from more or less than 5,000 square feet to more or less than 10,000 square feet.

•Approved limiting the hours of operations of gyms of more than 10,000 square feet to 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

•Approved special use designation for the city with funding from the Perrysburg Rotary Club to construct new pickleball courts at Rotary Community Park.

The next city council meeting is Tuesday, April 5, 6:30 p.m., at the municipal building, 201 East Indiana Avenue. All meetings are open to the public.
