Margaret Susan Waible-Rose, 80, of Perrysburg, passed away on November 30, 2021, at Rosary Care Center, Sylvania. She was born April 30, 1941, to J. Mark and Margaret E. (Nall) Metcalfe, in Evansville, Indiana. Following graduation from Memorial High School in 1959, she married James Waible on June 18, 1960, in Evansville. Susie and Jim would raise two daughters and celebrate 31 years of marriage before Jim’s passing in July of 1991. Susie would find love again and on August 6, 1999, she married Paul J. Rose Jr. at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg. Susie and Paul would celebrate nearly 15 years of marriage before Paul’s passing in May of 2014.
Susie worked at the office of Dr. Thomas E. Downs D.D.S., as the dental office manager 28 years before she retired. A devout woman of faith, she was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. At St. Rose she devoted her life to bereavement ministry and sacramental outreach. She completed the five-year Diocesan Adult Lay Ministry Program, majoring in bereavement ministry. Upon completion of lay ministry and attending workshops, seminars and conferences and then writing a mission statement, it was with approval of the pastor in 1995 that the St. Rose Consolation Ministry was born. Her ministries also would include sacramental outreach to five nursing homes and coordinating Holy Communion visits to the homebound and hospitals. The Perrysburg Knights of Columbus selected Susie as “Isabelle” of the year, recognizing her service to others, which included at that time: oncology research, Girl Scout leader, bereavement ministries, church lector, pastoral council, just to name a few. In what free time she had, she enjoyed traveling, and in her younger years sailing. Her daughters remember their mother as a wonderful seamstress, making their prom dresses and other clothes. Ultimately it was her family that was Susie’s greatest love. Being a grandma and great-grandma gave her the greatest joy!
Left to cherish Susie’s memory are her daughters, Laura (Tom) Reinhold of Cincinnati and Lisa Waible of Toledo; grandchildren, DJ Sly of Kentucky, Mark (Emily) Reinhold of Cincinnati, Benjamin (Danielle Liszka) Reinhold of Lakewood, Ohio, Marybeth (Conor Cunov) Reinhold of Cincinnati, and great-granddaughter, Ada Reinhold. She also is survived by brother, Bill (Jan) Metcalfe of Tennessee; sister, Angie (Bob) Merchant of Indiana; four nieces and their families, numerous cousins and many special friends. In addition to her husbands, Jim and Paul, she was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Walter Barth.
Family and friends will be received 4 to 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, at the Gray Stone Hall, 29101 Hufford Road, Perrysburg. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 9, at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 East Front Street, Perrysburg. Celebrant will be Rev. Msgr. Charles Singler, assisted by Deacon Thomas Wray. Committal will be in St. Rose Cemetery.
