We celebrate the life of a true lady. Jane married her loving partner Merrill (who preceded her in death) August 3, 1951. Jane and Merrill loved their beautiful Shady Lane Farm that they remodeled and decorated long before HGTV. This is where Jane had her craft and gift shop for more than 30 years giving 150-plus artists a place to sell their wares.
Jane was a graduate and avid University of Toledo Rocket fan, even displaying her pennant on her wheelchair. She was a 70-year member of PEO chapter AL supporting women’s education. She was a lifelong member of Ashland Church, where she led a quilt group sending many needed dollars to missions, along with serving in many other capacities. ∏ Jane led a life of service to many. She served on the board of the dental dispensary, making sure underserved children had dental care.
In retirement, Jane knitted hundreds of sweaters. Most of them were sent off to Guidepost Magazine and on to needy children around the world.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Lodema Laures, and sister, Betty Mason (Bruce). She will be dearly missed by her children, Jenny Dutot (Paul) and Laurie Chalfin (Tom); grandchildren, Brad Dutot (Lisa), Jamie Chalfin (Carrie), Julie Matthews (John) and Andy Chalfin (Andrea), and great-grandchildren, Vivienne, Garrett and Hamilton Dutot, Juli and Wes Chalfin, Will, Tommy and Jack Matthews, Aleah and Adina Castillo, and Ayda Jane Chalfin.
At Jane’s request, services will be private. Arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874- 3133).
Memorial donations can be made in Jane’s name to Ashland Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Condolences may be made to the family online at walker funeralhomes.com.
