There will be a dedication of a planter to honor the memory of Deb Buker, who was an active supporter of Perrysburg.

The dedication will take place Friday, June 25, at 1 p.m. on the southeast corner of Louisiana Avenue and East Second Street at the Bicentennial clock.

“This will be a lasting testament to a community she loved so much,” said Kim Klewer, a former member of Perrysburg City Council.

He noted that so many have participated in the reality of Mrs. Buker’s memorial, including her friends, who generously contributed to the cost; Historic Perrysburg Inc. who graciously served as the treasurer; Jon Eckel, who served as city liaison and managed planter design; Mayor Tom Mackin and the city administration for their support and assistance; Country Garden Club for perpetual care of the floral arrangement; and Perrysburg Messenger Journal, for which she served as editor from 2003 to 2018. She passed away April 15, 2020.

Mrs. Buker stated in a farewell letter from the editor, September 5, 2018, “My love for our hometown newspaper and the Perrysburg community is never ending.”

Mrs. Buker attended more than 350 city council meetings and 350 school board meetings during her tenure.

She enjoyed covering parades, events, ceremonies, fund-raisers, grand openings, ribbon cuttings and more.

“Every time I attended one of these, I saw the heart and soul of Perrysburg–the people,” she noted in her letter.

Mrs. Buker helped many committees and groups evolve and thrive in Perrysburg. And she placed a caring spotlight on area causes through the Messenger.
