Spaces are open for Wood County families who are interested in learning opportunities through the homebased program at Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP).

The GLCAP home-based program offers weekly learning sessions for families with children ages birth to three.

Families who are in the program meet one-on-one with a home-based coach who provides school readiness activities, parent mentoring, help with developing family routines and other educational activities that help children learn and parents grow as teachers.

The service is offered at no cost to eligible Wood County families.

With warmer weather here, home-based coaches are again offering in-person meetings with families who wish to have at-home learning sessions.

Families may also meet virtually with coaches if desired.

“The home-based program emphasizes that parents are their children’s first and primary teachers,” Gaby King, GLCAP quality teaching specialist, said.

“We are here to help parents in this role, and act as support for parents to help ensure that their children have the best early educational experiences possible,” she added.

The program utilizes Growing Great Kids curriculum, a nationally recognized early childhood curriculum that supports children and parents alike in early childhood development.

Families in the program will also have the opportunity to join monthly playgroups with other home-based families for socialization and support.
