The Spafford House Museum will hold its annual “Country Christmas” open house on Saturday and Sunday, December 4 and 5, from 2 to 7 p.m., at 27340 West River Road.

This 1823 two story Greek Revival home was built by Judge Aurora Spafford, who was the son of Amos, founder of Perrysburg. It hosted one the area’s first religious classes organized by the Methodists in 1819. They met in this home for 13 years until their first wooden church was built on Second Street.

The original rooms’ thresholds that the family and guests walked over were meticulously preserved when the Perrysburg Area Historic Museum bought it in 2009. The old homestead had been deserted for more than 25 years. It took five years to completely renovate the building to reflect and duplicate its early American heritage with woodwork, furniture, paint, wallpaper, artifacts and family stories.

Docents and greeters will be available to relate the area’s history.

There is no admission charge, refreshments are available and the site has ample parking.

A special invitation has been issued to visit after the 2 p.m. Sunday Christmas parade.
