The Rotary Club of Perrysburg celebrated the opening of the Rotary Park pavilion April 23.

The pavilion is the latest in the improvements at Rotary Park made possible through donations from Perrysburg Rotary Service Foundation.

Groundbreaking for the pavilion took place in spring 2020. With grant funds from the PRSF dedicated to improvements to the park, Rotary worked with Rudolph Libbe Inc. and city representatives to bring the concept to reality.

Jeff Normand, AIA, provided designs for the pavilion and landscaping.

Through a grant from Perrysburg Garden Club, landscaping was installed by Perrysburg Landscape.

“This great asset followed after many years of work, effort and generosity from members of Perrysburg Rotary and the community at large,” said Jack Sculfort, chair of Rotary’s Foundation.

Rotary Park started development in 2010. A walking path was added in 2011. Lighted tennis courts, posthumously named after Steve Hopkins, past Rotary President and Rotary Park supporter, were built in 2012.

“A pavilion seemed like the logical next step,” said Susan Nelson, vice chair of Rotary’s Foundation. “We wanted a beautiful place at the park for people to gather and also to continue to serve the community need for increased youth sports, planned baseball and soccer space.”

Acting on the motto of Rotary clubs across the world –“Service above Self”–the Perrysburg group has been involved in the community’s park system for many years.

An early donation by the Perrysburg Rotary Service Foundation helped save Fort Meigs many years ago.

Rotary also was involved, along with many others, in the grassroots campaign for Fort Imagination, completed at Woodlands Park in 1997.

Perrysburg Rotary Park is located across the street from Ft. Meigs Elementary School.

PRSF is a major contributor to the inclusive playground adjacent to the pavilion.
