A new class of inductees will be honored by the Perrysburg Athletic Hall of Fame.

The honorees are Ayokunle Olatunji “TJ” Fatinikun ’09, Charlie Hughes ’10, Ray Pohlmanhonorary PHS graduate ’15, Marsha Swanson ’95, Kurt Wells ’03 and the 2001 PHS boys soccer team, the state championship runner-up. On Saturday, February 5 at 4 p.m., there will be an induction dinner at PHS. The community is invited to attend the dinner and ceremony.

Dinner reservations are $35 per person and may be ordered at tinyurl.com/3awfrkfa. A paper order form also may be filled out in the PHS athletic office during school hours. Admission to the basketball game remains the same at $7 for adults.

Doors open at 3:30 p.m. A welcome and dinner will start in the cafeteria with inductions to take place at 5 p.m. in the auditorium for ticketholders.

Biaggi’s Italian Restaurant will cater the event. The inductees also will be honored at the varsity boys basketball game at halftime, which will be approximately 6:30 p.m. Dinner tickets include admission to the basketball game.

Those kindergarten age and older will need a dinner ticket. Those with younger children are asked to contact Veronica Guillen at vguillen@perrysburg schools.net for a code to receive a discounted child plate.

Mr. Fatinikun earned three varsity letters in football.

He was named First Team All-NLL and First Team All-District and Honorable Mention All-State. He also played basketball, ran track and was a member of the DECA team.

After graduating, he attended the University of Toledo, majoring in communication and playing football from 2009-13. He was twotime All-MAC in 2010 and 2011 and was a 2010 Academic All-MAC award recipient.

After his time at Toledo, he went on to play a season in the Arena Football League in 2014 before being signed to the NFL by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing from 2014-2016.

Mr. Fatinikun continues to give back to the community through his T-Fat’s Faith and Hustle Youth Development Camp, which helps build character and attitude. He lives in Tampa where he owns T-Fat’s Auto Spa, a German and domestic car detail and protection company. His fondest memory of Perrysburg was sharing the football field with his brother Ore.

Mr. Hughes earned three varsity letters in basketball and is the PHS all-time leading scorer.

He was an NLL champion in 2008 and 2010 and a two-time team captain. He was Second Team All-NLL in 2008, and First Team All-NLL in 2009 and 2010. He also earned First Team All-District and Toledo Blade Team in 2010.

While at PHS, he was the student council vice president and homecoming king.

Attending the University of Chicago, he played four years of basketball, earning team captain for two years and being named the 2013 team MVP.

After graduating, Mr. Hughes attended UCLA Law and UCLA Anderson School of Management. He currently lives in San Francisco with his girlfriend Kyun and works at Kirkland & Ellis as a corporate attorney and participates in the Kirkland pro bono program. His fondest memory of Perrysburg is going 17-0 in eighth grade and winning the NLL championship.

Mr. Pohlman’s impact on Perrysburg athletics reaches far and wide. He began his career as an assistant wrestling, track and football coach, eventually serving as head football coach from 1996-2000. He started the regional All-Star Football Game at Widdel field at Steinecker Stadium and helped coach in the Ohio North-South All-Star Game in 2000-2001.

His other accomplishments include:

•Coordinating the first After Prom at PHS.

•Awarded Outstanding Educator Award in 1988.

•Awarded the George C. Munger Outstanding Educator in 1995.

•Instrumental in the installation of the turf at Steinecker Stadium, as well as the athletic facilities at the high school and the Huskisson Athletic Center at the football field.

•He has also been inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame and went on to serve as the president for the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame-Toledo Wistert chapter.

•Earned the NFF Distinguished Service Award in 2011-2012.

Mr. Pohlman attended Bluffton University where he played football for four years as a defensive back and earned his bachelor of arts in mathematics and Bowling Green State University for his master of arts in education guidance and counseling.

He spent 36 years as an educator, 27 years as a math teacher, seven years as assistant athletic director and 11 years as athletic director. He has served as a member of the Perrysburg Board of Education since 2016.

He is married to Kim Pohlman. and they have three children–Cori, Brett and Kristi–and six grandchildren: Mackenzie, Peyton, Taylor, Trent, Audrey and Kylee.

Ms. Swanson earned five varsity letters while participating in volleyball and softball.

For volleyball, she was Honorable Mention All-League in 1992-93, Second Team All-League and Honorable Mention All-District in 1993-94, and First Team All-League, First Team All-District, and Third Team All-State in ‘94-’95, as well as co-captain for the 1994- 95 season. She also received First Team All-League in 1994 for softball and was named the PHS Outstanding Senior in 1995.

She attended the University of Toledo where she played four years of volleyball and was named a cocaptain.

Ms. Swanson returned to live in Perrysburg with her husband Nick and their two children, Grey and Josie. She currently teaches at Hull Prairie Intermediate School and coaches Junior Jackets girls basketball, VolleyJackets girls volleyball and volunteers for Safety Town.

Mr. Wells earned three varsity letters playing baseball.

He was First Team All-League 2002-03, First Team All Wood County 2002-03 and Second Team All-District in 2002, and First Team All-District and First Team All-Ohio in 2003. He was a member of Team Ohio in the Sunbelt Classic Baseball Tournament.

He holds the PHS single season hits and single season RBI records along with being the PHS career batting average record holder.

Attending Bowling Green State University, Mr. Wells was a four-year member of the BGSU baseball team and earned MAC Player of the Week twice in 2007.

He has worked in banking and insurance since graduating from BGSU. He lives in Pittsburgh with his wife Kelly, and they are expecting their first child in June.
