The Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Travis Jurgens, and the Perrysburg Chorale, under the direction of Dennis Blubaugh, will conduct a joint holiday concert on Friday, December 17, at the Perrysburg Junior High School, 7:30 p.m.

Center piece of the program along with other holiday favorites will be Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria.” It was written in Venice in 1715. It is believed he was the music director at a girl’s orphanage. In all likelihood the present Gloria, in which all the vocal solos are for female voices, was written for the girls at the school. It consists of 12 segments opening with Gloria in excelsis (Glory to God on High) and ending with Cum Sancto Spiritu (With the Holy Spirit).

The program also will introduce two new pieces being premiered in Ohio.

They include, Jonathan Wey’s “A Rose in Winter,” and Nathanael Pangrazio’s, “Poem for Strings.”

Other musical selections include the Trans-Siberian Orchestra selections.

The evening will end with the traditional Christmas sing-along arranged by Bob Cerulli.
