Perrysburg resident Anthony Knopps will host a book launch for “A Page in History,” which he wrote to address “the 2024 U.S. Presidential race in a post-COVID, post-Trump world.”
“The idea came out of a class I was invited to teach last year at Adrian College,” he said. “The class was a real-time look at the fall campaign. One of the key elements of that class–Campaigns and Elections–was the Election Integrity Project ‘war games’ that took place earlier that summer when leaders from government, business, the military, etc. gathered to game-plan scenarios for the election.
“The deeper we went in the class, the more uncertain the outcome became. There were concerns raised about the pandemic, of course, but also about what type of government the citizenry really wanted.
“After the class ended and after the election, I looked at possible outcomes for 2024. The outcomes there were just as concerning: Would COVID be solved? What would the Republican Party look like? How secure were our elections? How safe were we (truly) from threats at home? From abroad?
“All of those elements made it into the book in one form or another.”
The author spent years in Toledo’s two TV newsrooms, serving in a variety of roles, including political director at WTVG, and news director at WUPW/WTOL.
In July 2019, he was a passenger in a car driven by his son. The car was hit by a distracted driver and, while his son survived, Mr. Knopps, six weeks after the accident, was rushed to the trauma center at Mercy St. Vincent’s Hospital for emergency surgery.
As it turned out, the accident had left him with a traumatic brain injury. He rebuilt his professional and personal life, learning to live with the permanent impact of TBI. He now teaches communications and political science at Adrian College and Bowling Green State University.
He also serves as a senior faculty member in the online school of graduate communications at Southern New Hampshire University and in the graduate school of political management at George Washington University.
