Perrysburg American Legion Post 28 is seeking names of honorably discharged veterans who have passed away since Memorial Day 2020 so the names can be included in the reading at Fort Meigs Cemetery on Memorial Day.

Those with names are asked to send the info to Craig Gauger at gcgauger @hotmail.com or to call 419-350-4345. The information is due by May 27.

The post also announced they are no longer able to coordinate the annual Memorial Day parade and invites organizations and groups to take over and “carry the torch forward.”

In a letter to the community, members say they remain “steadfastly committed to the four founding pillars dating back to 1919 when we were chartered by Congress: veterans affairs and rehabilitation, national security, Americanism, and children and youth.”

They explain that though their membership has remained steady, the age of members has grown, making it difficult to carry on with some of their usual activities.

The post will hold its annual ceremony at the historic Fort Meigs Cemetery, Monday, May 31, starting at 10:30 a.m.

Members also will continue the annual tradition of placing American flags at the graves of veterans buried at St. Rose and Fort Meigs cemeteries. They invite the public to join them, Saturday, May 22, at 9 a.m. at Saint Rose Cemetery and 10 a.m. at Fort Meigs Cemetery.

They ask those interested in joining American Legion Post 28 to attend their meetings at 9 a.m. the second Monday of each month at Schaller Memorial Hall, 130 West Indiana Avenue.
