More than 125 guests visited the Commons on Saturday, May 7, for the Spring Art in the Courtyard event. Community members and residents enjoyed live music and refreshments while viewing local art, including pieces from nationally recognized artist and resident, Rudolph Schroeder.

Also featured was a display of children’s work created by artists at Inspirations Early Learning Center. Designs ranged from paintings with added media, chimes, decoupage and more. Children as young as 14 months old created works of art for the event.

At 91, Mr. Schroeder is still at his craft as a pen and ink pen over acrylics artist. Native to the Toledo-area, he is a self-taught artist. He discovered his passion at 14, and by the time he was in high school, his works were being shown in New York City.

His artwork can be found at the Statue of Liberty, the White House and in personal collections of celebrities such as Bill O’Reilly, Ted Turner, former President Bill Clinton and others.

He currently teaches classes to adults in the Unruly Arts classes at Toledo Botanical Garden and has shared his skills by offering classes to clients of the Commons.
