The building at 111 East Second Street was demolished June 11.

“It was always a commercial building,” said Mark Weber, a member of the Historic Landmarks Commission. “It was built in 1875, and, at first, it was occupied by attorney James Tyler. Dr. Henry Roether bought it for his medical practice in 1896. He practiced medicine there, and made house calls on his bicycle for 41 years. The building had many different businesses in it over the years, and stayed in the Roether family until just a few years ago when the Fowler brothers purchased it. The structure was becoming very unsound, and the timber foundation is rotting away. The owners submitted plans to the Historic Landmarks Commission to replace it with a similar commercial building.”
