PHS students to hold Harbor Walk for Hope

The Perrysburg High School Yellow Oak Club, a student-led group focused on giving back to the community, is hosting its fourth Harbor Walk for Hope. It is set for Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Woodlands Park, 429 East Boundary Street.

Legion seeks names of deceased veterans

Perrysburg American Legion will host a Memorial Day ceremony at Fort Meigs Cemetery on Monday, May 27, at approximately 11 a.m. The ceremony will be held after the Memorial Day parade, which starts at 10 a.m.

Stamp out hunger with PCU

On Saturday, May 11, letter carriers in the 43551 zip code will be collecting donations of non-perishable food to help stock the shelves of Perrysburg Christians United food pantry. Donations may be left near mailboxes. For those who live in town and whose carrier walks houseto- house, please have donations near mailboxes by 10 a.m. to be picked up by PCU volunteers. Carriers who walk cannot pick up donations.

Kuhlman portrait exhibit opens May 6

The Historical Society of Grand Rapids, in conjunction with the Grand Rapids Branch of the Weston Public Library, will hold an exhibition of portraits painted by Bill Kuhlman. An opening reception is set for Monday, May 6, from 7 to 8 p.m., in the community room of the Weston Branch of the library at 17620 Bridge Street in Grand Rapids.

Artist Bill Hinsch brings paintings to Waterford at Levis Commons

Artist Bill Hinsch–whose recent painting of Ohio astronauts was featured in the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda–presented his work at the Waterford at Levis Commons on April 22. Hinsch, above, creates portraits of aviation and military heroes, some of which have been hung at the Pentagon and National Air Force Museum in Dayton. He is the co-inventor of the learning map art form, developed in Perrysburg in the 1990s, and his art hangs in hundreds of corporate collections worldwide. Hinsch resides in Perrysburg with his wife of 42 years, Carol, who works at the Waterford.

Police implement bicycle registration program

The Perrysburg Police Division has a new program to help return bicycles to their rightful owners if they should ever be lost and found. The program allows residents to register their bikes with the police division.

Employee at Perrysburg athletic facility found guilty of rape, other felonies

On April 25, a man who was employed at a Perrysburg fitness center was found guilty of multiple felonies, including rape. Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson said Zachary Gibson, 32, was found guilty by a Wood County jury on 17 felony charges: three counts each of rape and gross sexual imposition, two counts each of sexual battery and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, six counts of pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor, and one count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.
