Park commissioners view construction progress at Sawyer Quarry Preserve
Plans for an interpretive center at Sawyer Quarry Preserve on Lime City Road are progressing. At the October 8 meeting, the Wood County Park District commissioners toured the two-story brown home and approved change orders for the building. Neil Munger, park district executive director, explained the change orders of $3,853 and $3,868 to contractor Adohr Corporation were due to structural issues the firm encountered during demolition. In May the board awarded the interpretive center contract to Adohr of Monclova for $257,700. Plans call for removal of the second floor room. The center will feature hands-on children’s activities area, a historical display on quarrying and a window on wildlife. Restrooms will be installed with separate access provided when the interpretive center is closed. The contractor also will install concrete board on the building’s exterior.
