Salvation Army seeks groups to donate toy-filled stockings
A new Salvation Army of Northwest Ohio Area Services program will provide area organizations or corporations with mesh stockings to stuff for local children in need.
Groups wishing to participate can call 419-241-1138 and ask for Major Barbara Duperree. Stockings can then be picked up from the downtown Toledo office.
The organization requests that the stockings be filled with needed toys for children. Stockings should be customized to fit one child, allowing families to take a full stocking home this season.
“The idea of filling stockings dates to the days of Saint Nicholas, who in secret threw gold coins through a window to help a family in need,” Major Duperree explained.
“Tradition says that gold fell inside the shoes and stockings of the residents. It is our prayer that these stockings bless the children of the families that receive them,” she said.
The Northwest Ohio Area Services program of the Salvation Army performs work in Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Henry and Fulton counties.
