Metroparks adopts name for Toledo park
A small metropark in south Toledo has a new name.
At the October 27 meeting, the Toledo Metroparks commissioners approved the name Brookwood for the 50- acre site on Swan Creek Drive.
Shannon Hughes, manager of park programming and interpretation, said the name was selected because of its connection with the area’s natural, cultural and historical features.
Brookwood also was referenced in the 1998 initial gift to metroparks as a trusting foundation from which to distribute funds for the area.
The house, featuring a renovated music room and rental space, was once home to William and Virginia Belt and their four children.
Mr. Belt, worked for the U.S. Forest Service in 1927, where he developed an appreciation for nature, Ms. Hughes explained.
